Gerard is a flute tutor and conductor at the Young Conservatorium, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. There, he teaches pre-tertiary level flute students and coaches the Flute Ensemble.

Gerard is the Brisbane agent for Flute Tree, Australia’s premier supplier of top quality student and professional flutes and piccolos.

He is the Flute Teacher at Padua College Kedron. He teaches boys from Padua College and girls from the sister schools of Mt Alvernia and St Anthony’s in FCIP (Franciscan Colleges Instrumental Programme)

Prior to 2001, Gerard worked as a professional flute/piccolo player and flute teacher in Australia, regularly performing with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra. He was a sessional flute lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

As an undergraduate student at the Queensland Conservatorium, he played with the international award-winning Movellan Wind Quintet. Whilst studying for his Master of Music degree, he was principal flute and concerto soloist (2013) with the Northwestern University Summer Orchestra (Evanston, USA).

He has performed and taught music in Australia, United States, Vietnam, Tonga, New Zealand, South Korea, China and Myanmar.

Gerard lived and worked internationally from 2001-2017. His final overseas posting was in Yangon, Myanmar (Burma), where he taught music at the British School of Yangon. He also gave flute masterclasses at the International School of Yangon. He was invited to play principal flute with the Orchestra for Myanmar. Before Yangon, Gerard worked in Beijing for 8 years teaching music full-time at two top international schools. He was secondary music teacher at Beijing BISS International School and then appointed Head of Instrumental Studies at Dulwich College Beijing, which was named best British International School in the world (2011 Independent School Awards). He recently resigned from his long-held office as Secretary of the International Schools Choral Music Society.
